Terms of Use
These terms cover using the Beyond the Headlines (BTH) website and the tools it currently offers — briefings, the interactive simulator, and BTH Premium membership. They describe BTH's actual, currently implemented functionality, in plain language.
A. About these terms
By using the BTH website or any of its features (reading a briefing, unlocking a briefing with your email, using the simulator, or taking out a Premium membership), you accept these terms for that use. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site.
B. Editorial content
BTH's briefings and articles are provided for general information and understanding. They are not a substitute for professional legal, financial, medical or other regulated advice, and you should not rely on them as such. BTH makes reasonable efforts to be accurate and to correct genuine errors, but content can change or be updated over time, including after publication.
C. The simulator
Where available, the "You Are In Charge" simulator is an educational, interactive modelling tool. It uses simplified rules and constraints to let you explore a topic — it does not guarantee any real-world outcome, and it is not legal advice, financial advice, or a prediction engine. You remain responsible for your own conclusions from using it.
D. Using the site responsibly
Please don't misuse BTH — for example, don't use the site unlawfully, try to interfere with how it works, or scrape it or automate access to it in a way that disrupts the service for others.
E. Accounts and membership
Some features (like Premium briefings) require you to verify your email address, which creates a signed-in session. You're responsible for keeping access to your own email account and any session/device you use secure. Premium access is only available while your membership has an active entitlement on BTH's own records.
F. Payments
BTH Premium payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are shown to you at checkout, on Stripe's own payment page. Cancellation and access currently follow whatever your Stripe subscription record says — BTH's own systems reflect that status but do not currently provide a separate self-service cancel/change-plan/refund flow of their own.
G. Intellectual property
BTH's content, design and branding belong to BTH or its respective rights holders. You're welcome to read a briefing and share a link to it for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't republish BTH's content elsewhere or reuse it commercially without permission. Where BTH uses stock photography, footage or other third-party media, that material remains subject to its own licence terms, separate from these terms.
H. Availability
BTH is a service that may change over time, and may occasionally be interrupted or unavailable — for maintenance, technical issues, or other reasons. BTH does not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
I. Liability
BTH provides the site and its content on a reasonable-efforts basis. To the extent the law allows, BTH is not liable for losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site, or from decisions made based on its content or the simulator. Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
J. Third-party services
BTH uses a small number of third-party services to operate: Stripe for payment processing, stock media providers for some imagery, and — for some internal production tools only, not reader-facing features — AI generation providers. BTH may also link to external sources (for example, in an article's sources list). Using or linking to a third-party service or source does not mean BTH endorses it.

How BTH collects and uses information is covered separately in the Privacy Notice, which forms part of how BTH operates the site alongside these terms.
